Container can just be anything..just care about the aesthetics.
For annuals you can choose anything, which will not ruin with heat or water
quickly. Anything , which hold few liters of media and will drain excess water.
Regarding the size I will write in details in the following posts. Before
discarding any container from your house just think once.. Can I use it?
For perennials It is advisable to use container that will
stay longer. Terracotta pots is by far the best, because it breaths. Disadvantage is they are comparatively heavy
and breakable. Plastic containers are good. They sustain the weather for 3 – 5 years
easily. Disadvantage is They don’t breath and media get heated. Grow bags are
also have same disadvantages. But don’t worry. Plants are very forgiving. You
can use those.
I personally use all inclusive of thermocol boxes, which I
have free access due to my profession. There are debates regarding their use
but I personally researched and found no concrete reason against their use. Advantage is they are extremely light, or I should
say lightest. Don’t degrade physically with weather. They don’t transmit heat
to the roots like plastic pots. Only disadvantage I found they like most other
containers are not porous means ..They don’t breath.
