We greedy human race, throughout our progress through
civilization are continually hurting the nature and she is tolerating us! But
how long she can protect us? Think about the old days when there were no
chemical fertilizers and no dangerous pesticides. You, those are above 50 years
of age can faintly remember the tastes and look of your food of that time. Life
was simple. Then slowly greedy human
race started thinking of increasing production, more profit and chemical fertilizer
companies came into play. I have every doubt if the chemicals have any extra
benefit at all. Plants are not like us that they will eat more if you give in
excess. Organic fertilizers were more than enough but farmers got brainwashed
by the greed of the fertilizer companies and they were forced to buy chemical fertilizers.
Cows were slaughtered relentlessly to decrease their population. They were the
major source of fertilizers and pesticides for the vested interest of the
multinational companies.
You may ask what is the harm if we use chemicals? After all organic fertilizers also release
chemicals as their end product! True.. but not all the chemical fertilizer aplied
are used by the plants. Most of it ultimately percolate into the water body and
help to flourish the weeds and in turn decrease the population of fishes ,
which in turn increases the population of dangerous disease producing insect larvae.
In short whole ecology is disturbed and mother nature is hurt and we human are thinking
of living in peace!
Same story is with the pesticides. If the plant is healthy,
organic pesticides are enough to keep the crop reasonably pest free. After
using the chemical pesticides, the pests are becoming resistant and larger
doses are required each year and result of this need not to be explained, I
suppose. Moreover natural pollinators like bees butterflies are dying. Farmers are
hand pollinating..shameful. Isn’t it? Pesticides again the water body killing
the fishes and ecology is disturbed.
I know, if I grow organic on my terrace , this is not going
to stop all these things and also I cannot thrive fully on my production in
limited space but this can be an eye opener to many that production without
chemical is possible. I will recycle my home waste, doing something good for
nature and at least I am reducing some dose of poison for myself.
Pleasure of creation is a bonus……
